The State of Texas requires all massage schools to teach 125 hours of Swedish massage and 75 additional hours of Massage Techniques.
Swedish massage is the therapeutic manipulation of soft tissue using Swedish massage strokes (effleurage, petrissage, friction, vibration, tapotement) and joint movements. At THAI School of Massage, we do not teach a Swedish massage "routine." Instead, our students learn to observe and listen to each body's particular needs. This enables the students to be highly flexible and tailor every massage to the client's preferences and individual requirements. In other words, our therapists are trained to honor the old adage: no two bodies are alike, and no two massages should ever be alike.
Whether our students decide to practice massage in Austin, Texas, or move elsewhere, THAI's graduates possess a valuable advantage in the market place. In the 75 hours of massage techniques instruction, our students learn to enhance their Swedish massage skills and marketability through training in to chair massage, trigger point release, pregnancy massage, reflexology, myofascial release, and clinical and sports massage. This combination of classes and skills instruction can be found only at our massage school in Austin.
In addition to hands-on training, students study the course material required to pass the written part of the state board examination, which includes history of the massage field, indications, contraindications, and body mechanics.
In addition to hands-on training, students study the course material required to excel in the state board examination, which includes history of the massage field, indications and contraindications, body mechanics, pathology, kinesiology, health, hydrotherapy, and business practices.
By mastering all of these facets of massage, THAI students become skilled at educated, nurturing, and healing touch.
